THE CITY OF MESQUITE ANIMAL SHELTER AND ADOPTION CENTER
INVITES LOCAL RESIDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE
PET ADOPTATHON 2008


Saturday, May 3 is Adoptathon 2008 and the Mesquite Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, located at 1650 Gross Road, will be hosting a Low Cost Vaccination & Microchip Clinic. VCA Loop 12 Animal Clinic and Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project will be on hand from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. The Mesquite Animal Shelter staff will also offer city pet registrations at half price during the extended shelter hours of 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on that day only. Paws Patrol Rescue will be on site with additional pets ready for adoption. The Gifted Animal Program, or GAP, will give K-9 and Service Dog Demonstrations and Johnny E. Woods "Barefootwoods" of the Choctaw Nations will perform the rain dance and hawk dance “In the Spirit of the Wondering Soul".

REGISTRATION for the annual John and Alta Nichols Art Camp to 7 thru 10 year olds begins at 8a. Art camp offers a week (June 9-13) of art experience taught by an experienced artist and teacher. The activities are structured for children ages 7-10 to develop their skills with drawing, painting, sculptural forms as well as mixed media. The camp runs Monday June 9th through Friday June 13th each day from 1:30-4:30p. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. Registration includes all materials necessary for each class. Mighty Lizard, a bilingual play based on a Mexican folktale tells the story of a prince on a magical journey and his encounters with giants and talking animals. Presented at the Mesquite Arts Center by the Latin Arts Association at 10a. Admission is free; reservations are required. The Texas Voices concludes its 5th Anniversary Concert Season with “First Voices” on Saturday, May 17, 2008, 7:30 p.m. at the Mesquite Arts Center. Echoes of the past come alive in this choral celebration of those who first lived in this land, including the Lakota, Yuma, Cherokee, Laguna, Apache, Suquamish, Duwamish, Shawnee, Pawnee, and Algonquin.
