YARD TRIMMINGS PROGRAM
None of the collected yard trimmings in Mesquite are taken
to a landfill; instead these materials are diverted to
the City’s composting facility and processed into
compost and mulch products. Yard trimmings consist of grass
clippings, leaves, brush, and tree limbs.
Guidelines for the successful collection of yard trimmings/brush:
- Place materials at proper collection point (street curb or alley, depending on size and amount) before 7:30 a.m. on designated day.
- Place only yard trimmings (leaves, plants, grass clippings, tree limbs, brush) – do not mix with other non-organic or chemically treated materials such as plastic containers, fencing, landscape timbers, railroad ties or household trash.
- For alley collection, stack tree trimmings in one
small manageable pile (no larger than 2 feet tall by
2 feet wide by 4 feet long and weighing no more than
50 lbs.), bag or containerize grass, leaves or very small
clippings from shrubs or plants.
- For curb collection (brush weighing over 50 lbs. or
piles larger than 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide by 4 feet
long), stack brush and tree limbs between the sidewalk
and curb – do
not block sidewalk.
Residents may also dispose of yard materials at the Composting Facility at 3550 Lawson Road.
“Don’t Bag It” Program
Follow this plan and never bag grass clippings again!
This lawn care plan developed by the Texas Cooperative
Extension, combines proper mowing, fertilizing and watering
techniques that allow your clippings to return to the soil
as a nutrient. Your lawn will recycle its clippings and
you will save time, energy and money.
